The Lady Captain at Maesdu Golf Club for 2019 is Mrs Hilary Roberts
It is indeed a great honour to have accepted the role of Ladies Captain of Maesdu for 2019.
I was born and bred in Llandudno but didn’t start playing golf until 2004 in an attempt to accompany my husband, Andy, onto the course to encourage him to play more at the Club of which he has been a member since his Junior days. I soon became hooked!!
We have a thriving Ladies Section with over 60 playing members of all abilities; some highly competitive and some out to enjoy our highly manicured course in beautiful surroundings. But one thing we all have in common is the love of this game which brings us back week on week in an attempt to improve. Occasionally it all comes together. We are a friendly group of Ladies and the weekly draw for competitions ensures we mix well. Along with a full fixture list we have several Mixed Competitions during the year along with a bi-annual fixture with the Senior Men’s Section. This continues during the year at our many social events held at the Club which are enjoyed by both golfing and social members.
May I wish you all, members and visitors, a most enjoyable time at Maesdu.

A very succesful Ladies Captain’s Charity day was held in the sunshine on 27 August where over £350 was raised for the Great Orme’s head branch of the RNLI. Ladies Captain, Hilary, thanked everybody who supported the day by taking part in raffles, giving donations and those who played on the course, which was wonderfully presented by Danny and his team of green keepers. Congratulations to Julie Cowing, who won the 13 hole stableford competition.
Ladies Captain, Hilary, would like to thank all of the 50 ladies who played on Ladies Captain’s Day on Tuesday 25 June. Everybody enjoyed a great day despite some early morning rain. It turned into a lovely afternoon with refreshments served on the 8th tee by some of the senior men. The Ladies Captain Prize was won by Angela Jones. Afternoon tea was served in the restaurant and enjoyed by all, including 10 of our more senior ladies who had also been invited to the presentation. Hilary was totally overwhelmed by the support, cards, gifts, flowers and good wishes she received and would like to thank everybody who helped in the preparations for her special day.
It was the Ladies Spring Open on Tuesday 7 May. The ladies were lucky with the weather, not much sun but it did stay dry. Ladies Captain would like to thank everybody who made the day a success including Danny and his team. 1st prize was won by Gaynor Mitchell and Jenny Ferdinando, 2nd prize went to Pat Roberts and Joy Butterworth, and 3rd prize Karen Pettigrew and Jackie. Bentley. The Best Visitors prize was won by Jane Jones and Moira Gough from North Wales GC.
Congratulations and a very Happy 100th Birthday to our very own Eirlys Cobley who has been an active member of Maesdu for over 40 years! The Ladies arranged an afternoon tea party to celebrate this special day. Eirlys enjoyed her special day and was presented with flowers and a birthday cake.
The Ladies had a lovely meal at their Christmas Party ….

Yesterday’s competition (05/12/18) was Santa’s Secrets Table. The ladies enjoyed the day as the weather was fine and loads of sweet goodies were eaten.
The icing on the cake was being able to present Linda, the Air Ambulance Wales representative, with a cheque for £1500.00, which was money collected from the Ladies Captain Charity events held during the year. Linda thanked the ladies and explained that it cost £1500.00 for each Air Ambulance call out and that we could be proud that we were able to pay for at least one life saved. I would also like to thank all the ladies for their invaluable support as without them the money could not have been raised.
A great day was had by all at our Christmas Cracker Open….
