Miss Robyn DenholmGrowing up, I was surrounded by golf, with both my father and brother being keen players. However, despite their passion for the game, I never felt inclined to take it up myself. It wasn’t until 2018 that my perspective changed when I was gifted a “New to Golf” package here at Maesdu Golf Club as a birthday present. My partner, also a golfer keen to return to the game, encouraged me to give it a try. What began as a thoughtful gift soon became a personal passion, and after just a few lessons and early attempts, I found myself captivated by the challenge and enjoyment the game brings. Now, seven years later, I can say with confidence that golf has become an important and much-loved part of my life. Reflecting on my journey, I sometimes wish I had embraced the game earlier, but I am immensely proud of the progress I have made. The members at Maesdu have been unfailingly welcoming and supportive from the very beginning, helping me develop from a complete novice to a confident and committed player. Whenever I am not working, you will find me out on the course, continuing to improve and enjoying the friendships and community that make Maesdu such a special place to play. It is an honour and privilege to serve as Ladies Captain for 2025, and I very much look forward to representing the Club throughout the year. My chosen charity for the year is Help for Heroes, an outstanding organisation that provides essential support to veterans and serving members of the armed forces who have sustained injuries or illnesses as a result of their service. Having served in the Royal Air Force from 2004 to 2015, in a role which involved transporting troops to and from Afghanistan, including many who were injured in the line of duty, I have seen first-hand the need for such vital support. Through rehabilitation, recovery programmes, and ongoing assistance, Help for Heroes works tirelessly to rebuild lives, and I am proud to dedicate my captaincy year to raising awareness and funds for the important work they do. I look forward to sharing a wonderful year with you all, both on and off the course. |
